Scene Around Town: Family Compass and Retina Foundation

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s July 18 issue, I’m featuring scenes from Family Compass who celebrated their 7th Annual North Star Luncheon presented by NDBT on Monday, April 28. More than 260 supporters joined co-chairs Bianca Hernandez and Elisabeth McHugh, along with honorary chair The Hoglund Foundation, for an afternoon of mission-driven connection and impact in support of preventing child abuse and neglect. Also highlighted were scenes from the Retina Foundation who raised $1.26 million this past May from their annual 2025 Visionary Luncheon. The event featured a heartfelt conversation between Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet and his mom about their personal connection to age-related macular degeneration.
