Scene Around Town: Breakthrough T1D and the Turtle Creek Association

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s June 27 issue, I’m featuring scenes from this past May, when Breakthrough T1D (formerly known as Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation/JDRF) held their annual Gala. Led by Heather and Jon Shell, the event raised $1.6 million and united 700 Dallas residents in the fight against type 1 diabetes. Also highlighted were scenes from The Turtle Creek Association who celebrated its 40th year at this year's Azalea Luncheon. Funds raised will help with future dredging and critical bank stabilization efforts of Turtle Creek as well as restore and enhance eight historic bridges.
