Scene Around Town: Jonathan Adler, World Food Championships, Recovery Resource Council and Magdalen House

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s December 10 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from a sneak peek of the new Jonathan Adler store in West Village. Adler was in town to be honored at the Fashion Group International (FGI) Dallas Night of Stars gala and opened his new retail space in an exclusive preview for FGI members. Needless to say, I wanted to move right in. It’s so chic and fabulous. I highly recommend you check it out!

On Thursday, Nov. 4, The Magdalen House treated the Dallas Community to an exclusive evening of storytelling and songs by Nashville’s most famous songwriters, Liz Rose and Lori McKenna of The Love Junkies, with special guest Hailey Whitters. The “Live Loud & Free” evening was chaired by Lucinda Buford who welcomed a sell-out crowd of over 300 guests to an unforgettable, open-air concert experience under the starry Texas sky to celebrate life, recovery, and freedom from the stronghold of alcoholism.

As the leader in Food Sport saddled up for its major foodie fest and competition this past November, organizers of the World Food Championships (WFC) extended a partnership to benefit the Dallas 24 Hour Club, a non-profit organization which since 1969, has provided safe, sober transitional living for homeless men and women seeking a brand new life away from drugs and alcohol.  The 24 was onsite throughout the 3-day food fest selling their new cookbook, Cooking at Home Through the Seasons. To bolster the group’s efforts and raise awareness for its cookbook offerings, WFC added a bonus for all purchases by providing free access to the “WFC $100,000 Recipe Collection,” a digital booklet that contains the top 10 recipes from WFC 2019.

The 2021 Golf Classic benefiting Recovery Resource Council was held at Cowboys Golf Club. Despite a rainy day, committed golfers participated in a shotgun-scramble start is promptly at 10:00 am.  Following the tournament, lunch was served along with prizes and awards for the winners.  The money raised will go to provide screenings, assessments, and outpatient services for addiction and substance use disorder, counseling for veterans and their families, and prevention education for at-risk children and youth.
