Scene Around Town: Dallas Symphony Orchestra and DIFFA

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s November 19 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from the 2021 Dallas Symphony Orchestra Gala. The beloved Dallas event featured the DSO gala debut of Music Director Fabio Luisi and the DSO debut of world-renowned violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. Following the seated dinner, guests moved to the Eugene McDermott Concert Hall to enjoy a performance by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra with GRAMMY® Award-winning violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. As a special treat, John Williams himself surprised the audience and conducted the DSO and Ms. Mutter in an encore of “Nice to be Around” from Cinderella Liberty. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra presents the finest in orchestral music at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, regarded as one of the world's premier concert halls. As the largest performing arts organization in the Southwest, the DSO is committed to inspiring the broadest possible audience with distinctive classical programs, inventive pops concerts and innovative multi-media presentations.

On Friday, October 8, generous and fashion forward individuals joined renowned national and local chefs at Peace Plaza at Cathedral of Hope for the twelfth annual Burgers + Burgundy event, presented by Chef John Tesar & Terri Provencal, with event chair Al James, benefiting DIFFA/Dallas (The Dallas Chapter of Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS). Partygoers sampled a wide variety of mouthwatering burgers created by John Tesar (Knife, Knife & Spoon, Knife Burger), Joshua Smith (Alltown Fresh Boston – Boston, MA), Sharon Van Meter (Beckley 1115), Luke Rogers (Cathedral Bistro), Rodman Shields (The Common Table), Samir Dhurandhar (Nick and Sam’s), Dan Landsberg (Ellie’s), Jimmy Contreras (Taco y Vino), and Jose Meza (Jalisco Norte). After enjoying the sliders, guests ended their evening on a sweet note with desserts from Krafty Kween Lio Botello.
