Scene Around Town: Dallas CASA Champions, Chick Lit Luncheon, and Zoo To Do

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s November 12 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from the annual Champion of Children dinner benefiting Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) held at The Rustic. The event annually recognizes those in the community who are standing up for the best interests of children. The evening raised more than $300,000 for Dallas CASA, which provides trained community volunteers for child victims of abuse or neglect living in the protective care of the state. Community Partners of Dallas brought in the big guns for the 15th Annual Chick Lit Luncheon. Academy Award-winning actress, New York Times bestselling author, producer, director, and true children’s advocate, Goldie Hawn, was the featured speaker who streamed in her appearance from her home in California. The event was presented by Dr. Robert and Lara Tafel on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the Hilton Anatole. Since 1989, Community Partners of Dallas has ensured safety and restored dignity and hope to abused and neglected children by providing crucial resources and support to the caseworkers of Dallas County Child Protective Services. Lastly, the Dallas Zoo hosted their Patron Party in anticipation of their upcoming annual Zoo To Do event. Proceeds from Zoo To Do will support the Zoo’s dedication to providing the best animal care, delivering unique education offerings, and furthering its wildlife conservation efforts.
