Scene Around Town: New Friends New Life and Bryan's House

As Society Editor for the Katy Trail Weekly I oversee the publication's Scene Around Town feature, which shines a spotlight on nonprofit and community events each week. In this week’s October 22 issue, I was pleased to spotlight photos featuring highlights from the New Friends New Life Annual Luncheon Launch Party. American Airlines and Dr. Monique W. Morris were announced as the 2021 ProtectHER Award recipients. Also highlighted are images from Bryan’s House “Pathways to Inclusion” luncheon held on Sept. 22, 2021 at the Arts District Mansion (formerly the Belo mansion). The luncheon featured the presentation of both the 2020 and 2021 Wisdom’s Hope Awards, which are given to community leaders for their service to Bryan’s House and the City of Dallas. In addition to the presentation of the awards, attendees were treated to a Kendra Scott pop-up shop, a raffle, and an emcee-led technology and innovation discussion with seven expert panelists. WFAA senior news reporter and host of Inside Texas Politics Jason Whitely moderated the panel discussion that focused on how technology, AI and accessibility initiatives can help create pathways for companies to employ people with special needs. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will benefit the work of Bryan’s House and its support of at-risk children with special needs and their families.
